How it Works

The Build Your Own Pass is completely customizable. Select any combination of at least two tourist attractions from a list of 37 popular activities that participate in the Go San Diego program, and your pass will be priced based upon what you select and how many you select. Not everything in the greater San Diego/Los Angeles area participates in the program (Disneyland is a big omission), but the majority of your most popular attractions including most Balboa Park museums, SeaWorld, LEGOLAND® the San Diego Zoo, and the USS Midway are all available for you to select for the Build Your Own Pass.

The pass itself is an all-digital product that will be e-mailed to you upon purchase as a pdf file. You then display the pdf file at the admissions counter or ticket desk of each of your selected attractions: they will scan it, and then let you in. You may visit any time during normal operating hours. Your pass is valid for 30 days after activation (the first time it’s scanned at an attraction) and can only be used once at each attraction. They now have a free Go City App that helps facilitate your use of the digital pass.

Additional Benefits: Skip the Line at Select Attractions

This is modest benefit that can actually be really useful depending upon the attractions you want to visit. Some of the most popular attractions in San Diego – including the Zoo, Safari Park, and the USS Midway – allow you to skip some type of line with the Build Your Own Pass.

Get Your Money’s Worth: Save on Regular Admission

The Build Your Own Pass saves you a guaranteed 20% (but only 10% if you include the pricey Universal Studios Hollywood – if you’re planning on also spending time in Los Angeles). The savings percentage doesn’t change if you add more attractions, which is different compared to some of their other products, but it is useful to know what you’re realistically saving versus paying for attractions individually.

In order to maximize your value, you need to visit all of the attractions you included on the pass. This shouldn’t be a problem since you designed it yourself, but if something should arise like bad weather or a change in plans, knowing that you can use the pass for a whole month after activation can often calm some anxieties about missing out. If you think you will go to several attractions a day, you can consider the Go San Diego Card for potentially bigger savings.
