Guests at the 170-room hotel are greeted by Scottish kilted doormen before entering the rustic warmth of the expansive lobby. Lodge at Torrey Pines Rooms

Guest rooms at The Lodge come in three styles: Signature Rooms, Reserve Rooms, and Palisade Rooms. Signature rooms are spacious at 470 to 520 square feet. They have either a single King bed or two Queen beds. Most have either a balcony or patio; be sure to request one if it is important to you. Reserve rooms are slightly larger at 530-550 square feet. Every Reserve room has a King bed, and either a balcony or patio.

Signature and Reserve rooms have Stickley mission-style furnishings, and beds have luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets and quilted duvets. They have elegant granite and marble bathrooms with over-sized bathtubs and luxury spa products. They also have Bose wave stereo systems, high-speed data hook-ups, laptop sized safes, mini-bars, and 24-hour room service. These room types all overlook the botanical reserve-style central courtyard.

Palisade Rooms are the hotel’s premier guest room accommodations. The golf course and ocean view rooms are 600 square feet and most have balconies. They have either a single King bed or two Queen beds. Palisade Rooms include all the amenities of Signature and Reserve rooms. Granite and marble bathrooms also have double sinks and walk-in showers. Additional room amenities include state-of-the-art telecommunications with private direct dial phone numbers, complimentary Wi-Fi, and guest robes and slippers.

Besides luxury guest rooms, The Lodge has seven suites. Signature Suites overlook a stand of Torrey Pines and the central courtyard. They are over 1000 square feet and each includes a parlor, private balcony or patio, and King bed. The Robinson Suite, Thorsen Suite, Blacker Suite and Gamble Suite all overlook the 18th green. The Robinson Suite is 900 square feet with an oversized fireplace in the living room and walk out access to the 18th green.

The 800-square-foot Thorsen suite has an oversized fireplace in the living room and another on the 400-square-foot balcony. The Blacker Suite and Gamble Suite both have central Presidential Parlors, private balconies, 1.5 baths, full kitchens and two fireplaces. Each has a bedroom with a King bed and the option of a second bedroom with two Queen beds, bathroom, and fireplace. The former is 2000 square feet, the latter 2500 square feet.

Note: The Lodge at Torrey Pines has earned the highest level in the California Green Lodging Program and has initiated an even more powerful new sustainability initiative that includes requesting guests to help conserve water during California’s drought. Only towels in the hamper or on the floor will be exchanged during room cleaning, and beds linens will be changed every other day. Participation in their sustainable efforts is optional.

Lodge at Torrey Pines Amenities

Of course the most notable amenity at this posh golf resort is the 36-hole Torrey Pines Golf Course. Guests receive preferred tee times on the stunning course, a favorite stop on the PGA tour. It is home to the annual Farmers Insurance Open each January and has also hosted the US Open, which it is slated to host again in the future. Golf stays are among the most popular hotel promotions, so be sure to check the website for current promotions before booking your stay.

The signature restaurant at The Lodge is A.R. Valentien, named for an early-1900s California artist. Executive Chef Jeff Jackson, winner of the USA Bocuse d’Or Culinary Gold Cup, is at the helm of this award-winning restaurant. A.R. Valentien was named among the top ten farm-to-table restaurants in the country by Epicurious magazine. The fine-dining restaurant offers indoor or patio seating. Thursdays present a communal dining experience with four-course Artisan Table Dinners paired with wine. The Lodge at Torrey Pines also offers a more relaxed dining experience at The Grill.

Other amenities include a 9,500-square-foot full-service spa offering signature spa treatments using botanical- and marine-based extracts, a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art fitness center, resort-style pool with underwater speakers, and a gazebo with hot tub. The resort-hotel offers complimentary chauffeured car service within five miles of the hotel. Croquet is available every morning on the grassy lawn of the Arroyo Terrace.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines has 13,000 square feet of gracious and elegant spaces that can accommodate meetings, banquets, retreats, weddings, or other large events. Lodge at Torrey Pines La Jolla Neighborhood

Torrey Pines Lodge fronts Torrey Pines Golf Course at the northern end of the La Jolla neighborhood on North Torrey Pines Road. It is right next door to popular Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. When you’re not golfing on the spectacular Torrey Pines Golf Course, there is plenty of other action in the neighborhood.

Nature lovers can enjoy hiking a number of hiking trails that criss-cross the oceanfront bluffs of Torrey Pines State Reserve next door. Popular Torrey Pines State Beach is at the foot of the reserve. You can walk the length of the reserve from the north parking lot all the way to Black’s Beach, San Diego’s only nude beach, at the extreme southern end. The walk offers spectacular cross-sectional views of the towering bluffs.

Torrey Pines Glider Port is above Black’s Beach and across from the UCSD campus. You can enjoy lunch at the Cliffhanger Café while watching paragliders and hang glideers soar over the Pacific Ocean. If you’re the adventurous type, you can tandem paraglide or tandem hang glide with a professional pilot and experience your own exhilarating flight.

The La Jolla Playhouse is located on the UCSD campus farther south along North Torrey Pines Road. It offers theater goers a rare chance to see a live world premier show. They’ve produced over 70 world premieres and earned 300 awards for their theatrical productions, including a Pulitzer Prize winner. Twenty-four productions have gone on to Broadway garnering 35 Tony awards.

Note: It you’re the outdoorsy type, you can bike to the reserve and other neighborhood attractions from the hotel, but if you aren’t an avid cyclist plan to explore by car. There are abundant walking/hiking opportunities at the reserve and along the beach, but much of the neighborhood is less walkable. Torrey Pines Lodge provides complimentary car service within five miles of the hotel.
